Once I saw the predictions for the big winter storm in the Northeast I immediately starting prepping. The first thing I did was get my portable propane generator ready. I personally use the Sportsman GEN7000LPC. I purchased this about 10 years ago after we went without power for a week! Since then it’s been a trooper – I usually use it a few times a year for a few hours to several days.
In order to prepare, I moved the generator into position in my garage. Better to do this up front, rather than stumble around in the dark. Connect the battery, check the oil, check the air filter, etc. I also moved my propane tanks into the garage. I normally store these outside, but you do not want to have to dig them out after a major snowfall (made that mistake once). I usually keep about 3-4 tanks on hand. I also use them for my patio heater and BBQ so they won’t go to waste if I don’t need the generator.
So far no major outages in my area. But, I live in a neighborhood with lots of old forest and branches that will likely come down once the snow accumulates. Good thing I’m ready!
